Middletown Firefighter Rebbeca Fisher was promoted to fire captain Monday night.

“I think this exemplifies there are no glass ceilings for women in the Town of Middletown” - Middletown Town Council President Christopher Semonelli.

Middletown Firefighter Rebbeca Fisher of Exeter was honored Monday night by Middletown Town Council for her promotion to fire captain. She shares this rank with only a few women in Rhode Island’s history, and will be the first woman to serve as  fire captain on Aquidneck Island.

Middletown Fire Chief Ronald Doire said the role of captain serves as the highest-ranking member of the department. The captain serves as the acting chief when he is not present.
