City Council to Tackle Pedicabs, Ped. Safety, Licenses Tonight

It will be a busy night for the Newport City Council tonight as they address pedicabs, pedestrian safety and other issues.

A resolution on the docket asks for the the City Manager to review state and local laws pertaining to pedestrians in the crosswalks and determine if there's a need to improve safety measures. Additional traffic devices might include signs, markings or electrical warning devices. The resolution also would direct the police department to "strictly enforce any law which prohibits distracted vehicular operation (such as text messaging)."

Another ordinance would amend the proposed pedicab ordinance to reflect adjustments made by City Solicitor Joseph J. Nicholson Jr., who in a memo to the council said the changes "may reflect the council's collective attitude," but "I am unsure though."

The council will also consider an expansion the Barking Crab's annual entertainment license to allow DJs and full bands. The restaurant is currently restricted to background music and 2-3 musicians and vocalists with guitars.

Let the Barking Crab have bands, DJ's, they can have a time machine and bring back Jerry Garcia, no one is going to go there, the place is an overpriced dump. A lobster roll is only $30 bucks, and for an extra $17 I can get a cup of clam chowder and some potatoes.

Certainly the worst restaurant in Newport, I feel bad for any tourist who gets stuck in there

Just what we need. More noise to add to the cacophony. Surely more people. Even worse, karaoke people. Do we just start stackin em up as they come off the bridge?. There's no room left for this crap. Enough already!
