Two people are recovering from smoke-related injuries and a family pet is dead after a fire Wednesday afternoon on Sunset Hill Road.

Fire Chief Ronald Doire told the Providence Journal that the fire broke out around 3 p.m. and firefighters found flames coming out of the front door and windows.

One man had gotten out of the house while a man and woman were taken to Newport Hospital where they were treated and released.

A family dog did not make it out of the house.

Firefighters extinguished in 45 minutes.
