Traffic Stop Leads to Two Drug Arrests

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

  • Two people were arrested after police pulled over a vehicle for speeding around 3:15 Wednesday morning. Octavio Duarte, 24, of 105 Meadow Road, North Providence, was charged with possession of drugs with intent to deliver, a felony. Jessica Kane, 23, of 2 Douglas Dr. Apt. #1, Smithfield was charged with possession of drugs, a felony. They were both cited for possession of marijuana. Police said crack-cocaine was found in the car and the marijuana was found in Kane's boot. 


  • Angela Barta, 47, of 30 Middletown Ave. Apt. #4, was arrested Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. on charges of shoplifting. On Dec. 22, She allegedly stole a cashmere scarf valued at $270 from Boutique Mandarine, located at 1 Bannister's Wharf.

  • Shaquille Alleyne, 19, of 26 Fillmore St., was arrested Tuesday around 6:30 p.m.on charges of vandalism. He allegedly punched in a car window.

  • Elizabeth Lydon, 40, of 50 East Bowery St., was arrested Wednesday on disorderly conduct. Police said she was visibly intoxicated, swearing and threatening people who attempted to stop her from driving.

  • Muhammad Shabbir, 54, of 9 Gould St. Apt. #5 was arrested Tuesday around 7:45 p.m. on charges of violation of a no contact order and a domestic disorderly conduct.
