Three Teenagers Charged with School Break-in

The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Three teenagers were arrested after they allegedly broke into Coggeshall School in Newport on Monday around 3 p.m.

Police charged a 15-year-old boy from Newport, a 15-year-old girl from Middletown and a 14-year-old boy from Newport on wilful trespass and vandalism to school property.

Police said they were alerted due to a fire alarm. Inside the school, police said there were foot prints that resembled a skateboard style sneaker in the chemical dust from a fire extinguisher. There was also a puddle of urine on the floor, said police.

Police found an Apple computer that appeared to be recently used and a video camera on a nearby shelf. Footage on the camera showed individuals walking through the school, said police. Police also found several home movies on the camera, including footage of a car license plate.

Police found the owner of the car, who told them the teenagers' identities.

One of the boys told police they climbed through an open window and he discharged a fire extinguisher, which set off the alarm. They reportedly left through the school's back door.
