Edward R. Mather, Jr., 48, of 136 Raver Lane, Middletown, was arrested around 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, for a receiving stolen goods charge.
Police received a report of a woman recovering a stolen bicycle near the Goat Island bridge.
The woman told police she reported her bike missing from her back yard on Spring Street on Sept. 18. On Monday, she saw Mather riding it on the causeway.
Reports said she cornered him, forced him to stop and told him to give the bike back. Mather told her that he bought the bike from someone, gave the bike back and ran away, she told police.
Police located Mather, who said he found the bike on Memorial Boulevard. He also said he was glad the woman got her bike back, reports said.
Domestic assault arrest
Shawntay Duche, 21, of Newport, was arrested around 8:50 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, for a domestic simple assault charge.
According to reports, the victim told police Duche had assaulted her during an argument.
Duche turned herself into police on Monday morning.
