Reward Offered for Walmart Arson Suspect

Police said the suspect set two fires inside the Walmart but only one caught.

Newport Police are looking for a man who allegedly set a fire inside the Walmart in Newport on Monday and a $5,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to his capture.

The man is described as a black man standing about five feet, six inches and appears about to be about 45 years old.

Police said the man tried to start two fires but only one caught.

The fire was extinguished quickly and was contained to two aisles, thanks in part to the store's sprinkler system.

The store suffered extensive damage from the fire from smoke, water as well as the flames.

If you have any information about the suspect, call 401-462-4242 and ask to speak with Sgt. Christopher Hayes.
