Man Carrying Flag Allegedly Assaults Employee, Shoplifts

The following incidents were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Man Assaults Employee, Shoplifts

Wesley Brown, 37, 415 Friendship St., Providence, was arrested on Wednesday around 10:40 a.m. on a felony charge of possession of a knife during a crime, and misdemeanor charges of simple assault, shoplifting and larceny under $1500. He allegedly walked into Charlie's Five and Dime, located at 230 Broadway carrying an American flag, shoved an employee, grabbed a pair of sunglasses from the shelf and ran out of the store. Nearby witnesses helped police find Brown.


Breaking and Entering 

Daniel Price, 19, of 9 Swan Drive, Middletown, was arrested Wednesday around 6 a.m. on a felony breaking and entering charge. He allegedly reached through a window of a Narragansett Avenue home and grabbed a laptop.    

Indecent Exposure 

Jonathan Swift, 29, of 16 Lewis Road, Concord, MA, was issued a summons on Sunday around 2 a.m. for indecent exposure and and for an open container. He was allegedly urinating on the a Thames Street church while holding a Pabst Blue Ribbon beer.
