Police Log: Disorderly, Drinking in Public

The following incidents were reported by Newport police. They do not indicate a conviction.

Newport Police charged a 37-year old Maynard, Mass.-man with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest early Monday morning after they responded to a report of a fight between a man and woman on a trolley.

Police said they responded to Touro Street at Whitfield Place by the Viking Hotel where they found Michael LaCasse Jr. being held back from getting on the trolley by the trolley driver.

Police said LaCasse's wife was passed out on the floor of the trolley surrounded by vomit and LaCasse was reportedly upset that he wouldn't be allowed back on the trolley.

Officers at the scene said LaCasse would not come down and became aggressive towards officers, resulting in the disorderly charge and resisting arrest charge.

His wife was transported to Newport Hospital and later released.

At 4:26 p.m. on Sunday, police said they saw Paul Young, 44, of 15 Meeting St., take a sip from a bottle of alcohol while near Oak Street and Dr. Marcus Wheatland Boulevard.

Police said Young admitted to drinking from a bottle of Caldwell's Vodka and was issued a Municipal Court summons and is due to appear on Aug. 19.
