Police Identify Suspect in Mystery Shooting Incident

A man arrived at Newport Hospital early Sunday morning with a gunshot wound.

A suspect has been identified after a man arrived at Newport Hospital around 1 a.m. Sunday morning with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. There were no reports of shots fired and the victim refused to provide information to police, said Newport Lt. William Fitzgerald.

Police have a suspect but no charges have been filed yet, said Fitzgerald.

Police are unsure where the incident occurred.

"Nobody is talking, said Fitzgerald. "There are several places it could have happened. Broadway was searched, but no casing were found," said the lieutenant.

Police are still investigating an incident of shots that were fired on Cranston Street in August. Police said at this time, there is no reason to believe the two incidents are related.

The incident remains under investigation by the Newport Police Department.
