Pair Cited for Tying Skateboard to Bike, Riding into Traffic

The pair reportedly rode the wrong way on Thames Street and then turned into traffic on America's Cup Boulevard, nearly causing an accident, police said.

Two 27-year-olds from Mass. and N.J. respectively, were cited with traffic infractions after they allegedly went for a ride around town with a skateboard tethered to a bike.

Police said Spencer Johnson, of Marston Mills, Mass., and Michael J. Spark, of Harvey Cedars, N.J., were seen by an officer on patrol by the Red Parrot as Spark pedaled a bicycle and Johnson rode a skateboard the wrong way along Thames Street, connected by rope.

The officer then reported seeing the duo turn onto America’s Cup Boulevard, where they nearly struck a vehicle head on, police said.

Once stopped, they were apologetic.

Spark was summonsed for driving the wrong way with an Aug. 18 Municipal Court date.

Johnson was summonsed for operating a toy vehicle in the roadway with the same court date.
