NPD Make 2 DUI Arrests After Alleged Near Misses With Police Cruisers
The following arrests were reported by the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.
Newport police made two separate DUI arrests overnight after drivers almost hit police cruisers, said police.
Erika Ritacco, 23, 161 Sloop St., Jamestown, was arrested on a driving under the influence charge. She was also cited with refusal to submit to a chemical test. Police said she was driving slowly on Bellevue Avenue and nearly swerved into a police cruiser. Police said she refused to get out of the car.
“Look I parked fine. I usually can’t park sober, forget like I am now. So you see I am safe,” she allegedly told the officer. She then reportedly explained it was 9/11 and she “didn’t have time for his [expletive]." She told the officer he was acting ridiculous, reminded him again it was 9/11 and added that she had a dog in her apartment. She was taken into custody and the passenger agreed to take the dog out, said police.
