Newport Woman Charged with DUI

A Newport woman is facing charges of driving under the influence after she allegedly failed a field sobriety test and registered a .280 on a breathalyzer test — nearly three times the legal limit.

Newport Police said Katherine O. Lovelace, 29, of 17 Houston Ave., Newport, was seen driving east on Pond Street towards Marcus Wheatland Boulevard when she ran a stop sign.

Police then saw Lovelace continue north on Marcus Wheatland Boulevard and run through another stop sign.

Once stopped, Lovelace reportedly smelled like alcohol and was mumbling as she rummaged through her wallet.

She later failed a field sobriety test.
