Newport Police Log: One Cited, One Arrested after Noise Complaint

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Ivan V. Pushkarev, 28, and Vadym, V. Kovalenko, of 26 Catherine St., Newport, were cited around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12, for a noise complaint. Kovalenk was also arrested for simple assault and obstruction of a police officer.

Police were dispatched to their address for a report of loud music and talking.

During questioning, Kovalenko would not give police certain information about himself and said they could not be cited because they were not issued a warning.

There had been five previous noise complaints for the address in the past year, reports said.

Kovalenko allegedly lunged at an officer during questioning, but was restrained and arrested.
