Matthew Brown, 19, of 40 John Chafee Blvd., Newport, was arrested around 3:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 31, for a larceny from a motor vehicle under $1,500 charge.
Police responded to Bull and Kay Street to look for a suspect seen trying to enter vehicles. Witnesses saw him at the driveway of 16 Redwood St. trying door handles, reports said.
Police found Brown and detained him after a chase.
Brown reportedly told police he had been at a party and needed money to get home after initially denying going into cars. He admitted to trying door handles and entering one vehicle.
Police found $2.49 in change in his pockets.
Man arrested for assault, vandalism charges
Ronald H. Hill Jr., 24, of Newport, was arrested around 10 p.m. on Monday, July 30, for domestic simple assault and domestic vandalism charges.
The victim told police she had gotten into a fight with Hill and that he had assaulted her. Her friend was also with her, who had stepped outside during the time of the fight.
The victim’s friend told police she heard and yelling and banging inside. The victim had injuries consistent with her story.
Police arrested Hill at Festival Field.
- Meaghan N. Woolhouse, 21, of Newport, was arrested around 7:15 p.m. on Monday, July 30, for a domestic malicious injury to property charge. According to reports, Woolhouse was let into her mother’s house by the landlord. When her mother told the landlord she was not welcome he told her to leave. Woolhouse smashed a glass candy dish while walking out, reports said.
- Daniel J. O’Connell, 56, of 8 Tilley Ave., Newport, was cited around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, July 30, for possession of alcohol in public.
