Newport Police Log: Man Arrested on Slew of Charges at Pineapple Inn

The following is based on reports from the Newport Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Jermaine R. Brewster, 29, of an unknown address, was arrested around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 18, for domestic assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism, refusal to relinquish a telephone, larceny, third-offense domestic simple assault, and domestic threats charges.

Police responded to the Pineapple Inn for a reported domestic assault. When they arrived Brewster was still in the room and the victim was in the office.

According to the victim, Brewster was upset over the kind of beer she had purchased. She told police he assaulted her and threatened her with a knife.

A man in a nearby room told police he hard heard yelling and doors slamming.

When police searched him, they found a multitool in his pocket that included a knife.

Reports also said Brewster had also taken $215 from the victim.

Unlawful drinking

  • Alexander G. Tobiassen, 19, of 8 Beacon Hill Rd., Newport, was cited around 12:35 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 19, for an unlawful drinking charge.
