It's always nice to see a good samaritan asks a victim in SPANISH, what happened? People can we just admit that people entering into this country, just don't give a rats arse in learning the language of the land. It floors me how immigrants, especially Hispanics find it unnecessary to learn or speak English. I am sorry this individual was assaulted. No person deserves that. However, that aside, there is no excuse as to why immigrants(not all mind you) feel the need that they don't need to speak English.

Are You Retarded Or Just Stupid? If You're Retarded, I'll Ignore Your Comment. If You're Stupid, Then Just Shut Up And Stop Commenting. Whether Retarded Or Stupid, You Are A Racist For Sure.

@Chris- Well let's see Chris? Man that's a lot of choices? Retarded ,Stupid or Racist?? Hmmm??? You know, sorry I just can't seem to choose. You pick.. Let's see? About your comment? You're an Idiot. You're Blind. You're a bleeding heart. Oh yeah, you're a Liberal. DIng..Ding..Ding! Give Chris the booby prize for selling his country down the river. Standing up for American Culture is not racist, it's patriotic. In case you missed the memo on a common factor when it comes to this fine melting pot we call America is we speak English!! What I would advise to you is pick up an American History book and learn it. You should be able to read it, because you do obvioulsy know English. Oh yeah and get those damn Liberal rose colored glasses off and come back to reality.

Ralph, here's an interesting fact - the United States does not have an "official" language. These articles in the Police and Fire section of the Newport Patch are written rather exploitively and typically mention details that are superfluous at best and inflammatory at worst.
ralph May 08, 2013 at 02:15 PM
@Hairsonfire- I agree with you on some of the articles that the Patch post sometime. Just to point out though. I never stated that the "official" language of this country was English. I stated that some, not all, immigrants refuse to learn and speak the common language that we speak in this country which is English. I can state that there are many, many people who think as I do, that an immigrant who enters into this country should have a basic knowledge and use of the English language. Enough to function in American society. A majority of examples I have experienced are those who are Hispanic. There is nothing wrong with speaking a second, third or more languages. There has been in the past several decades a lack of emphasis on those who enter this country to learn and use English. When did it become the norm to furnish those who have been in this country for many years with interpreters, because the individual cannot speak English? A recent example was the latest big Powerball winner. He was from NJ and has lived in this country for more than 25 years. During a news conference, he needed an interpreter to ask and answers questions, because he did not understand English. I find this not only troubling, but very insulting. I support anyone that comes to America to fully enjoy all its freedoms. However, learn and use it's most common language though, which is English.

Where your ancestors immigrants looking for a better life, Ralph?

Her ex-boyfriend went to the police station to report she struck him in the head with bottle and bit him. What a cry baby, almost as bad as the whistleblower on Marv Alberts Stay Classy Newport
Robert Oliveira May 08, 2013 at 03:26 PM
Ralph, the Founders had that choice and rejected it. You come across as non-serious.
ralph May 08, 2013 at 03:39 PM
@nptresident- Yes they were. To add they most likely didn't speak English. However, over time they learned quick that if they didn't, they weren't going to last too long. Again if you reference what I said, I have nothing against immigrants coming to this country to wrap themselves in the freedoms that America has to offer. I don't expect immigrants to speak English right when they step onto American soil. However, I would hope that they would assimulate into American society. Part of that assimulation would be the knowledge and use of the English language.
ralph May 08, 2013 at 03:45 PM
@robert Oliveira- Non serious. Huh!! That's a hoot. I can tell you that there is a large majority of non serious individuals who have the same take on this subject as I do. Again, I am not specifically saying that English is the "official" language of America. It is though the PREDOMINANT language that you, I and millions of other Americans use.
Robert Oliveira May 08, 2013 at 03:53 PM
Ralph, then leave at that. If you talk about the economic incentives for learning English (funny - no matter how good somebody's English supposedly is, you start talking numbers and money it gets real good) and you'll come off as a lot less "birtherish".
nptresident May 08, 2013 at 04:22 PM
And how long is that supposed to take? One generation? Two generations? A year? Most immigrants have tried to hold on to their languages and traditions when they come here - that includes the Italians, French Canadians, Portuguese, Chinese, Greeks, etc. This is not uncommon.
ralph May 08, 2013 at 07:13 PM
@nptresident and Rob Oliveira- Both valid points on your parts. I'll leave it at this. When both of you are out and about your travels. Ask people. Ask this simple question? Do you think someone who immigrates to this country should learn English and eventually speak English? Simple unbiased question. I bet you'll be surprised as to how many say yes to the question.

Hey,Ralph is entitled to his opinion! What I really get a kick out of, is when someone gets caught taking the "Holier than thou" soapbox! Was there a rebuttal from a bi-lingual citizen?Otherwise a can of worms has been opened up here! To shut you both up?This is NOT Europe! This is New England!
