Police anticipate high numbers of arrests over the weekend, parade was mostly trouble free.

Eighty-nine people were arrested on various charges including drinking in public and disorderly conduct in Newport on Saturday and early Sunday during celebrations in honor of St. Patrick.

The St. Patrick's Day Parade was a success and thousands gathered for a mostly trouble-free day, but Newport Police always anticipate making a slew of alcohol-related arrests.

The Newport Daily News reported that 89 were arrested, of which 50 were for public drinking and 10 were charged with illegal possession of alcohol. Ten were cited for public urination.

We'll post more details about the arrests later today.
