Newport Man Suspected in Middletown Assault Gets Home Confinement

Keith Filkins, 34, of Newport, is accused of breaking into a Middletown home and assaulting the resident.

The Newport man accused of breaking into a home in Middletown and assaulting the resident is under home confinement until future court hearings.

Keith Filkins, 35, of 15 Leal Terrace, Newport, faces charges of breaking and entering, assault, drug possession, and weapons possession following his arrest on May 20 by Middletown Police.

Rescue crews transported the 42-year-old victim to Newport Hospital for treatment.

According to online records from the Adult Correctional Institutions, Filkins completed a 30-day jail sentence on June 25 for violating probation on a prior vandalism charge before being placed under home confinement that same day.

No schedule of upcoming court hearings had been posted online at the time of publication of this article.

Filkins had also been serving a 10-year suspended sentence with 10 years' probation stemming from a May, 2012, no contest plea to charges of extortion and blackmail brought by Newport Police.

He is also awaiting trial on cyberstalking and extortion charges brought in April, 2012, by Newport Police.
