Newport Man Charged with DUI

The arrest came after the suspect reportedly failed to stop at a stop sign.

Police charged Randall Keith Dustin, 46, of 503 Spring St., Newport, with driving under the influence and refusing a chemical test Monday at 12:36 a.m.

Police said Dustin was stopped after an officer at a fixed traffic post saw him roll through the stop sign at Thames Street and Morton Avenue and didn't slow down until he was in the middle of the intersection and never came to a complete stop.

Police said Dustin smelled like alcohol and later failed a field sobriety test. He is due to appear in District Court on May 7 for the DUI charge and was issued Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal summonses for the refusal and traffic violation with a court date of May 15.
