Newport Man Charged with Domestic Assault

A 48-year-old Newport man is charged with domestic simple assault for allegedly punching his girlfriend in the face during an argument.

Police said Peter Gregarczyk, of 439 Broadway, was arrested Jan. 29 after he turned himself into police.

The victim reportedly called 911 and said her boyfriend of two-and-a-half years punched her in the face. Upon arrival, officers said she had swelling on the outside corner of her right eye and "the swelling intensified as I spoke to her," according to a police report.

The victim said she didn't want to get anyone in trouble, but police said they were required to respond because it is a domestic situation. Responding officers said the victim then became uncooperative and would not respond to questions about Gregarczyk's whereabouts. She also refused medical treatment.
