The Newport Police Department might be saying goodbye to Capt. Russell Carlone — and the Somerset Police Department might be calling him "chief."
Carlone is in the running for the job of police chief in that Massachusetts town, according to SouthCoastToday.com, and the Board of Selectmen is expected to make their final pick this week.
Carlone, along with four other finalists, were interviewed late last week during public sessions.
Along with Carlone, Arthur Martins, a Major in Pawtucket; George McNeil, a Lt. in Randolph, Mass.; Capt. Stephen Moniz of Somerset; and Robert VanNieuwenhuyze, a Dep. Chief in Smithfield are in the running for the job.
