Fire Captain Assumes 'Good' Outcome For Boat Stuck on Rose Island

Emergency crews searched for a boat after it was reportedly stuck in the rocks off Rose Island

Emergency crews responded to Rose Island Monday afternoon after a witness called 911 to report that a white motor boat appeared to be stuck on the rocks. Its five passengers were reportedly waving at cars on the Newport Bridge. No injuries were reported.

“We arrived on scene just before the Coast Guard,” said Newport Fire Captain Donald Gunning. “We did not find them.” Gunning said emergency crews and the Newport Harbormaster searched around the mooring areas, but did not find a boat that matched the description. “It did not sink and there were no calls for injuries," said the fire captain. "We have to assume that everything was good.”
