mr Strickland was injured and died as a result of being struck by a vehicle while riding a bike. it is extremely unlikely that the presence of a helmet is a relevant fact, and putting the sentence into the article implies that the helmet is a mandatory talisman for protection from injury and death, which it most definitely is not. Secondly, the term should be collision in the title and body of the article. Until the police have determined that the collision and death were unavoidable, it is not an "accident".

Here's the real point: This was an unmitigated tragedy for everyone involved--there's way too many victims here. Can anyone say "bike path'?

I agree - how many collisions, deaths, and near misses are required before a paved bike path is put in?
