Residents Share Super Bowl Plans

Patch's Lauren Meltzer headed to downtown to see what football fans had in store for the big game this Sunday.

The big game is coming on Sunday, and some locals are stirring in anticipation for the event.

The Super Bowl XLV will take place between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Green Bay Packers this Sunday on FOX. Newport's downtown restaurants and bars are preparing for a large crowd, anticipating the arrival of many college students from Salve Regina and other sports fans from around the area. Whether you find yourself to be a football fanatic or just a casual bystander, the Super Bowl is always a fun crowd event for those looking for food, drinks and an overall good party.

“I live for the Super Bowl every year,” said James Tucker. “Football is life to me, no matter if my team is in the game or not. It’s a great time to get together with family and friends, kick back, relax, and enjoy a good game.”

Other Newporters we found downtown this week said they would be enjoying the game from inside of their homes, hosting parties for several of their close friends. Some are even traveling out of state to watch the game at a larger venue.

"I’m not too into football, but I usually watch the game with my boyfriend and his friends,” said Lindsay Shoemaker. “Usually I drag my girlfriends along with me and we make fun cocktails and snacks.”
