Obituary: William Raymond Lincourt, 95, Auto Body Shop Owner, Instructor

William Raymond Lincourt, 95, of Newport, died Wednesday, April 23, 2014 in Newport, RI. He was the husband of the late Alice (DePonte) Lincourt. Born in Newport, RI on August 30, 1918, he was the son of the late Felix and Rose (Lemare) Lincourt.

Bill was a 1937 graduate of the former De La Salle Academy. After graduation he went to work in his father's blacksmith shop on Taylor Wharf, then started working at the former Kingston Garage until World War II. During the war, he worked at the United States Naval Torpedo Station until 1944, when he started his own business Lincourt Auto Body, which he operated for 30 years until his retirement in 1977. Bill became an instructor at the Rhode Island Trade School in Providence until 1980. His work at the school led to the design and construction of several products where he was the Patent Holder for 5 different pieces of equipment.

Bill was a lifelong member of St. Augustin’s church, first as an altar boy then as a former member of the Parish Council. He was a member of the Newport Knights of Columbus, and a member of the 4th Degree General Rosecrans Assembly, serving as past Faithful Navigator and Captain of the Guard. Bill was also a member of the Newport Rotary and a former member of the Peoples Credit Union Board of Directors.

He was the beloved father of Jane Marie Lincourt of Plattsburgh, NY, and Joyce Anne Sullivan and her husband John of Portsmouth; beloved grandfather of Richard H. Fullerton II and his fiance Bridget Heaney of Newport, RI, Jodi L. Faucher of Plattsburgh, NY, Brooke A. Sullivan and her fiance Zack Grassi and John F. Sullivan III, both of Portsmouth, RI; and two great-granddaughters, Delaney Cait Faucher and Eila Maeve Faucher of Plattsburgh, NY. He is survived by siblings Monica Marcucci, Mary Fess, and Henry Lincourt, and numerous nieces and nephews. 
He was preceded in death by Edmond Lincourt, Joseph Lincourt, Arthur Lincourt, Leo Lincourt, Albert Lincourt, Paul Lincourt, Blanche Matthews, Alice Williams, Emma Sullivan, Ernestine Chapin, Dalvina Clark, Bertha Lincourt, Nellie Mae Lincourt, and Valentine Lincourt.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, April 25 from 4:00-6:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport.

His funeral will be held on Saturday, April 26 at 9:00am, from the Memorial Funeral Home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00am, in St. Augustin's Church, Carroll and Harrison Avenues, Newport. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery, Brown’s Lane, Middletown, RI.
