Obituary: Thomas Wilson, Sr., 75

Thomas Wilson, Sr., born in Elizabeth, NJ, died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at age 75.

He was a proud Vietnam Veteran who served in the US Navy from 1955 and retired in 1985 as an MSC, US Navy from NETC Newport. He then served 10 years in Civil Service at the same base. He was decorated with honors from the military including the Vietnam Service Medal, the National Defense Medal and other medals of commendation.

He was the biggest fan ever of the Champion Boston Red Sox and the Washington Redskins. He was an avid bowler on the Navy league for many years, and was a dedicated member and color guard member with VFW Post #4487 in Middletown, and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

Widowed to A. Barbara Wilson, he is survived by four children, Kevin Wilson of Tiverton, RI; Dianne Farrar of Newport, RI; Mark Wilson of Tampa, FL; and Thomas Wilson, Jr. of Alabama. He also has many grandchildren including David Farrar of Newport, RI; Chris Wilson of Germany; and Cory and Lonzell Wilson of Florida. There are also many great-grandchildren.

Visitation with the family will be on Friday, February 14, 2014 from 11 am -12 pm in Community Baptist Church, 50 Dr. Marcus Wheatland Blvd., Newport, RI, with a funeral service at 12 noon in the church. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Middletown Cemetery in Middletown.
