Obituary: Scott W. Potter, 52, Owner of Viking Marine

Scott Potter, 52, of Newport, RI died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Newport Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.

Scott Potter, 52, of Newport, RI died on Wednesday, April 30, 2014, at Newport Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Willimantic, CT on June 16, 1961 he was the son of the late L. Louise Potter.

Scott attended Windham High School, the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute, and Embry Riddle Aeronautical University in Colorado Springs. Scott worked as an airplane mechanic for many years in Colorado, then moved to Rhode Island where he was the owner and operator of Viking Marine on West Main Road in Portsmouth, RI. He also loved animals, and being outdoors and being on the ocean, fishing and diving, and was a licensed pilot and enjoyed flying.

He is survived by his sisters Patricia and her husband Larry Sparks of Lancaster, KY and Tina and her husband Roger Abell of Mansfield Center, CT. He also leaves nieces Jennifer Sparks and Jessica Demoran and nephews Matthew and Eric Abell. He also leaves to mourn, his Newport family, including Jason Goldfarb, Tania Panasewicz, Eric Rybacki, Revka Hovermale, and Catherine Gunning and family.

A private gathering of friends and family in Newport to be scheduled at a future date.
