Obituary: Paul F. Biastre, 67

Paul F. Biastre, 67, of Newport, RI, passed away after a 14 year illness with Parkinson’s Disease with his wife Barbara of 46 years and son Adam by his side.

Born in Newport, RI on October 14, 1946, he was the son of the late Henry J. and Frances May (Smith) Biastre.

Paul attended St. Joseph's Catholic Grammar School and graduated from Rogers High School in 1965. After high school he entered the US Navy and went to Groton Connecticut Submarine School. He served on the USS Tritan and later transferred to the USS Argonaut. After his military service, he worked at Kaiser Aluminum and Raytheon. Paul later went on to New England Tech where he received his Associate Degree (HVAC) and for a short time taught at NE Tech. His education took him to Sears in Jacksonville, FL for 18 years. Returning to Newport, Paul was employed at Naval Station Newport as Supervisor Planner and Estimator for 19 years, leaving due to his Parkinson’s. Paul enjoyed life, loved working on their home and being with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Barbara A. (Bateman) Biastre, he is survived by his son Adam, Lynn, his grandchildren, twins Samuel and Madison Biastre, his brother, Henry Biastre, Jr. of Middletown, RI, his sisters-in-law, Sandra Langstaff of Florida and Beatrice Brown of Florida, his brother-in-law, Kenneth Brown of Florida, his aunts, Ruth Lauth of Newport, RI and Edna Olmstead of New Jersey, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and great friends.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2014 from 4-7 pm in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.

His funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 10 am in the funeral home.

Entombment with Military Honors will follow in Newport Memorial Park, Middletown, RI.
