Obituary: Louise A. Ritchie, 99

Louise “Vivi” Alderson Ritchie, 99, widow of the late Kenneth L. Ritchie, of Middletown, RI, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014 at Newport Hospital.

Born in Newport, RI on November 15, 1914, she was the daughter of the late Archibald and Sophie Elling Alderson.

Mrs. Ritchie was a 1932 graduate of Rogers High School and after high school was a bookkeeper at Rugen’s. In 1941, she married and worked as a designer in her late husband’s florist business, Green End Greenhouses, until her retirement in 1970. A lifelong member of Emmanuel Church, she served on its Vestry as Senior Warden, was a member of its needlepoint chapel group, the altar guild and the Tuesday sewing group. She was a golden leaf member of the Aquidneck Grange, a member of the Middletown Historical Society and also a member of the Aquidneck Island Florist Association. She was an accomplished seamstress winning many 1st prize blue ribbons, which included a state 1st prize blue ribbon. 

She is predeceased by her siblings, Anne Alderson Tweedale, John H. Alderson and Margaret L. Nixon. She is also predeceased by a nephew, Kevin A. Nixon and a great-great-niece, Tina Pope.

She is survived by three nieces, Margaret Coleman of Georgia, Colette Griffin of Florida, Dore Doran of New Jersey and a nephew, John H. Alderson, Jr. of Georgia. She is also survived by three great-nieces, three great-great-nieces and a great-great-great-nephew.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2014 from 8:30-9:30 am in Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, with a burial service at 10 am in Emmanuel Church, 40 Dearborn Street, Newport, RI. Burial will follow in Middletown Cemetery, Middletown, RI.
