Obituary: James E. Smith Sr., 62, Landscaper, Patriots Fan

James E. Smith, Sr. , 62, of Newport, died peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Newport Hospital. He was the beloved husband of Patricia E. (Brown) Smith. Born in South Kingstown, he was a son of the late Amos I. Smith, Sr. and Mary E. (Bliss) Smith. 

Mr. Smith worked as a Landscaper for T.J. Brown Landscaping. He was a member of the Community Church of God in Wakefield and an avid New England Patriots Fan. 

He leaves his seven children: James Brown of Newport, Betty L. Cotto-Santiago and her husband Nerson of Newport, Jesse E. Hazard of New London, CT, James E. Smith of Newport, Joseph R. Smith of Newport, Toby Bliss Hall of Newport, Robert D. Smith of Newport, and John J. Smith of Newport. Cherished grandfather of Brad Hall, Darrell Lee Smith, Ti'asia Shante Weeden, Jahila Egypt Hazard, J'zaria Heaven Hazard, Maylina Evalynn Cotto-Santiago, Mya Elizabeth Wilson, Nevaeh Julyanna Cotot-Santiago, Alius Willie- James Cotto-Santiago, Sekhi Carlise Ashley, Zhiaer Marquis Johnson, Joseph Ronald Smith, Delilah Rose Cotto-Santiago, and great-grandfather of Kavon James Smith. He was the brother of Amos I. Smith, Jr. of Pawtucket, Leola H. Robinson of South Kingstown, John A. Smith of Providence, Richard W. Smith of Peace Dale, Mark A. Smith of South Kingstown, Hannah I. Calhoun of TN, and the late Stewart A. Smith, Janet Wilson, and Jeffrey A. Smith. 

His Funeral Service will be held Monday, March 24, 2014 at 2:00 pm in THE CRANSTON-MURPHY FUNERAL HOME of WICKFORD, 140 West Main Street, Wickford Village, North Kingstown. Burial will follow in New Fernwood Cemetery, Kingston. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
