Elaine M. Beretta, 66, of Black Hut Road, Glendale, R.I. died Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at the Rhode Island Hospital after being involved in an auto accident. Formerly of Newport, she was a daughter of Dorothy C. (Bradley) Shaffell and the late Robert J. Shaffell.
Elaine attended local Newport schools and was a graduate of Rogers High School. For many years, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Women and Infants Hospital and at Fogarty Hospital. Elaine later worked for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Rhode Island. Elaine was a resident of Glendale, R.I. for the past 39 years.
Besides her mother, she leaves her son Robert J. Beretta III of Johnston, R.I. and her grandson, Anthony R. Beretta of Foxboro, MA.

Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 pm on Monday, May 19, 2014 at the O’Neill-Hayes Funeral Home, 465 Spring Street, Newport. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9am on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at St. Lucy’s Church, 909 West Main Road, Middletown, R.I. Burial will be private.
