Obituary: David Perry Simmons, Vietnam Vet, Caregiver

David Perry Simmons, 65, of Newport, died Thursday, March 6, 2014 at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, RI.

Born in Jacksonville, FL on April 23, 1948, he was the son of the late Richard Perry and Laura Elizabeth (Guito) Simmons. David graduated from Miami Central Senior High School in 1966. From 1969-1973, he served in combat forces in the US Navy in VietNam. David was a manager at H&R Block for 25 years in Middletown, as well work at several catering establishments. For the past six years he has been a Compassionate Caregiver, with the Rhode Island Patient Advocacy Coalition.

He is survived by his brother Michael James Simmons, his sister in law Minu Simmons, and his furry best friend, Toby-dog.

Calling hours were held on Tuesday, March 11, 10:00am-12:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, followed by a Memorial Service at 12:00 noon. Burial with Military Honors followed at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Cemetery, in Exeter, RI.
