Obituary: David L. Hallman, 70, Founder of Septic Service Company

David L. Hallman passed away on Saturday, April 5, 2014 surrounded by his family and friends after a courageous five year battle with lung cancer. David was born on February 10, 1944. He was the son of Barbara Spooner Hallman and the late David O’Quinn.

David graduated from Rogers High School in 1964. After high school he joined the RI National Guard. On September 6, 1965 he married his high school sweet heart Donna Graff. In 1966 he joined the Newport Fire Department and retired in 1992 after 26 years of service. He was a member of the Firefighters Local 1080 and also was a member of the North End Club.

David was the Founder of Hallman Septic Service Company in 1986. His son, Scott joined him in the family business in 1997. Together they evolved the company into Hallman Septic Service and Portable Toilet Company LLC.

David loved spending time with family and friends at his beloved beach house. He also loved playing pitch with his friends and looked forward to his Sunday morning rides with his friend Dave with whom he shared his entrepreneur spirit and on their ride they would solve the problems of the world. He especially loved spending time with the loves of his life, his granddaughters Maryellen and Maggie with whom he made wonderful memories with.

Besides his wife Donna of 48 years and his mother, he leaves two children, Debra Settle (Larry) of Newport and Scott Hallman of Portsmouth. Two granddaughters Maryellen Settle and Maggie Settle both of Newport. He also leaves two brothers John Hallman and Brian Hallman of Virginia and two sisters Nancy Brothers and Barbara Silvia of New Hampshire.

His family would like to thank Visiting Nurse Services for their wonderful care and his good friends for all their support, especially his best friends, Dave Lemler, Jim Phelan, Carmine Ripa and Steve Travis. We also would like to thank Carol Cinotti for the wonderful love and care she gave Dave.

Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, April 9, 2014 from 4:00 to 8:00pm in the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI.

His funeral will be Thursday, April 10, 2014 at 10:00am in the funeral home.

Burial will be private.
