The fund was established in 2010 through a grant from the Frederick Henry Prince 1932 Trust. The fund supports grants that strive to promote health and wellness among Newport County’s youth and families through physical activity as part of the belief that active kids lead to healthy kids. Innovative entrepreneurs are encouraged to develop programs that promote these kinds of efforts.

Some of the previous recipients include: Bike Newport and its program to get kids on bicycles and exploring their surroundings; Island Moving Company and the continuation of an after-school dance education scholarship program; Tiverton Park Fund and the creation of an obstacle course at Bulgarmarsh Recreation area; and Norman Bird Sanctuary with its initiative to promote outdoor exercise for teenagers.
