{Trend Alert} Smart Home Appliances

We always like to stay on top of the latest trends in real estate. One in particular is getting us very excited- smart home appliances! The idea of merging everyday home appliances such as a refrigerator or washing machine with inventive technology is beginning to make a splash in the real estate sphere. For example, General Electric has come up with a new kind of generator that can be monitored and activated from a smart phone, giving an out of town homeowner peace of mind. For about $5,000, you can soon own a Dacor’s Android-powered oven which allows you to you to surf the Internet, view recipes, and even enter a guided cooking mode for novice chefs. You might not know how long to cook that rack of lamb, but if you key its weight into the 7-inch LCD screen at the top of the oven, the oven does the rest of the work by setting the temperature and a timer.

Likewise, Whirlpool’s 6th Sense Live app lets you stay in control of your kitchen using your smartphone while you’re out and about. You can manage your refrigerator temperature, lock your dishwasher control console and know when your cycle is done, among many other things.

Next, the innovative iSmartAlarm CubeOne is a square base that controls the whole home security system. It also comes with a series of motion sensors that detect movement in the house, some contact sensors to detect breaches of windows and doors, a camera, and a remote control.  And it can all be controlled with your smart phone.

As technology becomes more affordable and more common, we look forward to seeing more cool new smart appliances in the home! From remote control deadbolts to intelligent blenders, the smart appliance trend is certainly something to keep an eye on!
