When Your Christmas Tree Will Be Picked Up

When can Newport residents put out their tree for disposal?

Now that the Christmas shenanigans are over, the presents unwrapped and the eggnog all sipped, what's left to do but to pack up the ornaments and dispose of the Christmas tree.

Remember, there will be a one day delay following the Dec. 25 Christmas holiday and the New Year's Day holiday on Jan. 1. Collections will be delayed one day for the remainder of those weeks.

But what to do with the tree?

Christmas trees and yard waste will be collected curbside during the week of Jan. 13 residents’ regularly scheduled collection day. Do not put the tree in a plastic bag, and remember to remove all ornaments, tinsel, garland and lights. This is the last yard waste collection until the week of March 17.

The 2014 City of Newport Solid Waste & Recycling Calendar is available to download at www.cityofnewport.com/cleancity and will also be mailed to residents in December.
