Newport Skating Center Lends a Helping Hand During The Give Back Season

The rink saw yet another successful “Give Back Day” on Saturday, January 4, 2014 as families and friends of the Newport Skating Center came out to support local charities and families in need. In addition to collecting a number of new or gently used coats through the Amica Insurance Coat Drive – which were donated to Child and Family of Newport County and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center – the Rhode Island Blood Center collected 6 pints of blood, which will help nearly 20 patients. The generous donors received their choice of a skate-for-free pass or a free 1lb. bag of Dunkin Donuts coffee. Lastly, presenting sponsor Stop & Shop provided complimentary reusable shopping bags filled with items from Apple & Eve, Karma Wellness Water, Sorrento ® Stringsters and thinkThin bars. In addition, Cabot Cheese, GO Veggie! and RIPTA were also on-site handing out tasty samples and fun giveaways throughout the day.

“The kids and their families were extremely gracious with donations. We are happy to see that so many in the community will do their part to make a difference and help others,” noted Michele Maker Palmieri, General Manager of the Newport Yachting Center.
