Newport Gallery Night

Take a break from the stress of holiday preparation and get out on Thursday December 13th to see the various Newport galleries that will be open from 5pm to 8pm.  The galleries offer a variety of Newport’s finest art, whether it be an oil painting, handmade jewelry, or sculptures.  Take the time to enjoy this art throughout Newport as you wander down Bellevue Avenue and Thames Street, the location of most of the galleries.  Not only can you take the time to enjoy the art for yourself, but also it is the perfect time to purchase a gift for one of your loved ones.

This month, Spring Bull Gallery is featuring their 22nd annual exhibition of the “Les Petites Oeuvres,” showcasing a variety of treasures including oils, watercolors, pastels, graphics, glass and other media by various local artists.  The exhibition will be open throughout the month of December, and the gallery will be replacing pieces that are sold with new original art.

The Newport Scrimshanders, located on Bowen’s Wharf, will be offering hot apple cider and cookies during Newport Gallery Night.  Take the time to venture off Thames and onto the Wharf to find demonstrations of how the Scrimshanders create their pieces!

The Newport Art Museum, also located on Bellevue Avenue, is featuring two free activities for December Newport Gallery Night.  Ana Flores, currently an exhibiting artist at the museum, will be available beginning at 5:30 to talk about her exhibition, “Ana Flores: The Island Draws Me.” In addition, members of the Photographers’ Guild will be on hand to discuss their photography, photographic equipment, and photo-editing software.

In addition to the aforementioned gallery shows, there will be almost twenty other galleries open on December Newport Gallery Night, Thursday, December 13th from 5pm until 8 pm. There is free parking available downtown at the Newport Visitors’ Center as well as uptown as the Newport Art Museum.  For more information and updates visit www.newportgalleries.org.
