An Introduction to Artisan Breads: Special Guest Chef Bill Reichman to Teach at Newport Cooks!

Newport Cooks! welcomes special guest Chef Bill Reichman of the Cooking Skills Academy in Itasca, IL, located just outside of the culinary mecca of Chicago.

Bill the Baker will teach his fun and information packed 3-hour class on baking Artisan Breads. In this introductory course he’ll demonstrate that you can start baking bread before you understand all of the science behind it, and that indeed cooking is an art, but baking is a science. We’ll learn the steps to follow for successful bread baking and basic bread baking skills. And then, we’ll get around to the actual science involved in bread baking - what really is going on inside that dough?! You’ll leave class feeling comfortable working with yeasts. We’ll make 5-Seeds Lavash Cracker, Pain A L'ancienne (Rustic Bread), and Hummus. Please bring an appetite to learn as well as for everything we make and bake.Class fee: $75 per student

Bill has been baking break for over 30 years and, although most of his working career was spent in many different facets of the computer industry, his passion has always been baking bread. Along the way he has tried baking other products but always kept coming back to breads. He enjoys that the same four simple ingredients of flour, salt, yeast and water can produce an endless variety of bread products. Not only does each variation of bread look different, but each truly has a different taste as well. Bill loves the smell of his fresh bread baking in the oven and the look on people’s faces when they taste what he has created. He is currently an active member of the Bread Bakers Guild of America.
