Newport Democrats Endorse Magaziner for Treasurer

The committee, in a release, said they met with all three candidates and chose to endorse Magaziner "who is committed to creating jobs and helping the Rhode Island economy grow."

Citing a need for "fresh ideas in the State House," the Newport Democratic City Committee today announced they've endorsed Seth Magaziner for General Treasurer.

The committee, in a release, said they met with all three candidates and chose to endorse Magaziner "who is committed to creating jobs and helping the Rhode Island economy grow."

“I thank the Newport Democratic Town Committee for their endorsement,” Magaziner said in a statement. “We continue to meet voters throughout the state who are frustrated with the way things have been going in Rhode Island. They want to make a clean break from the mismanagement and back room deals that got us into this mess and they don’t trust career state house insiders to get us out of it.

“As Treasurer, I will use my track record as a private sector investment professional to bring a steady hand to our state’s finances and focus on programs that will get the economy growing and create jobs for Rhode Islanders.”

Newport joins Barrington, Burrillville, Charlestown, Exeter, and Tiverton, as the sixth Democratic City and Town Committee to endorse Magaziner. Seth has also received endorsements from the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Locals 328 and 791, the Ironworkers Local 37, Sheet Metal Workers Local 17, dozens of Rhode Island business leaders, and former Congressman Patrick Kennedy.

Magaziner is in the midst of a campaign for the Democratic nomination against Ernie Almonte, the former state auditor general; and Frank Caprio, who came close to winning the Governor's race in 2010 and previously served as treasurer.
