2nd Ward's Lynn Ceglie is Running for City Council

"Newport faces many challenges but I think my ability to work collaboratively to reach positive results will benefit the City Council. I look forward to being a common sense voice for the residents of the 2nd Ward," she said in a statement.

Lynn U. Ceglie, a child outreach screener for East Bay Community Action, announced her intention to run for the Newport City Council seat representing the 2nd Ward.

"Newport faces many challenges but I think my ability to work collaboratively to reach positive results will benefit the City Council.  I look forward to being a common sense voice for the residents of the 2nd Ward," she said in a statement.

Ceglie is the vice chairwoman of the Newport Zoning Board of Review, a a member of the 375th Anniversary Committee and has served and is serving on an impressive array of local boards, such as the Newport Public Library, the Newport Education Foundation and as a member of the Charter Review Commission in 2007.

In her current position at EBCAP, Ceglie said she screens preschool age children for speech and language developmental delays. 

A graduate of the University of Hartford with a bachelor's degree in mass communications, Ceglie has also designed interactive training programs for the Navy and Gilbane Building Company, she said.

Ceglie lives in Newport with her husband, Vincent, and is the mother of two Rogers High School graduates, Mia and Chase, who will attend Rhode Island College in the fall and is enrolled at Berklee COllege of Music in Boston., Mass., respectively.
 
“Communication is a two way street and as a council member I would work tirelessly to contribute to an affordable but a high quality of life in this vibrant city that we all love," she said.

Ceglie said she will file her declaration of candidacy paperwork on June 23.
