Wednesday: Council Workshop, Magic Show and America's Cup Lecture

Here's a look at what's going on around Newport today.

  1. The Newport City Council will meet for a special workshop for an update on the Economic Development Working Group, status of roadway improvements, and the recommended FY13 operating budget.
  2. Magician Mat Franco will be at the at 10:30 a.m. to kick off the summer reading program. The magic show will be held in the lower program room. No registration required, ages 4 and up.
  3. Also today at the library, writers will a solstice celebration with poetry. Ocean State Poets will read original poetry, featuring two finalists from the Write Across RI poetry challenge, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
  4. will hold a today at 11 a.m. Trudy Coxe, CEO & Executive Director of The Preservation Society of Newport County will share stories and images from Harold's sailing career in the illustrated lecture. Admission is free for Preservation Society members, $5 for the general public. 
  5. Thewill meet at at 10 a.m. for a tour through some of America's most legendary. Admission is free but advance registration is required.
