Fall Recycling Day This Saturday

The fall recycling day will take place Saturday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. at Easton's Beach parking lot.

The City of Newport’s Clean City Program’s Fall Recycling Day will be held in conjunction with the Eco Depot hazardous waste day on Saturday, Sept. 28 from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. in the Easton’s Beach east parking lot. This is the last time both the Eco-Depot hazardous waste day and the Recycling Day event will happen on Aquidneck Island until April 2014.

The event is free to any Rhode Island resident.

The Fall Recycling Day portion will feature recycling for the following: electronics, scrap metal, Styrofoam, plastic bags, rigid plastics, cooking oil, paper shredding (4 box limit), bikes, books and clothing and household items.

Compost bins will be available to Newport residents only ($45 - check for payment). Also free for event attendees: Custom House Coffee (reusable mugs encouraged!) and Save The Bay Exploration Center & Aquarium coupons.

The Eco-Depot portion of the event will accept hazardous waste such as oil-based paint, propane tanks, fertilizers, fluorescent lightbulbs, antifreeze, gasoline, mercury containing devices (thermostats, etc), pool chemicals, motor oil, aerosol paints and more. This portion of the event requires an appointment by contacting Rhode Island Resource Recovery at 942-1430 x241 or www.EcoDepotRI.org.
