5 Things: Walk to School, College Planning Night, and Issues Forum and Debate Watch

Here's a look at what's going on around Newport today.

College bound? College Planning Night for juniors and seniors will begin at 6 p.m. in the Rogers High School auditorium. 

The debates begin: There will be an issues forum and presidential debate watch at the Pell Center at 7:30 p.m. The American Enterprise Institute's Michael Auslin and the Century Foundation's Michael Cohen will host a discussion on national security and foreign policy. The forum will also use electronic survey tools to measure audience opinions, and will include a Q&A.

Ditch the bus!: St Michael's Country Day School and Thompson Middle School invite students to participate in International Walk to School Day today.

Vikings games: Girls Varsity soccer has a home match against Masters at 3:30 p.m.; Girls Varsity tennis will face Tolman at 3:30 p.m. away at Slater Park /Tennis Courts.

Revamp your resume: The Newport Public Library has partnered with the RI Department of Labor and Training for this series of free workshops. Today's focuses on resumes, cover letters and thank yous, and runs from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Registration is required. Sign up at the Reference Desk 847-8720 x208.
