Will Wind Turbines Be a 'Victory'?

Deepwater Wind recently won the rights to build wind turbines off Rhode Island's coast — what do you think?

A Rhode Island-based developer will soon begin construction of wind turbines at its facility at Quonset, after Deepwater Wind bid $3.8 million to lease two areas off the Newport coast

The company is expected to hire "hundreds of workers" who will construct 200 turbines to be placed in the 165,000 acre lease areas, according to a Providence Journal editorial that termed the deal a "Victory for Deepwater, and R.I."

It will be about five years until the turbines are ready to produce electricity, the editorial noted, suggesting that secondary businesses to support the turbine construction should move to Rhode Island, further helping economic development.

What do you think? Is the wind turbine project a 'victory' for Rhode Island? Do you think it could be the economic engine that the Providence Journal article foresees?
