The state Health Department submitted reports on Newport Fudgery, Xtra Mart, Newport Hospital and the Boys & Girls Club.

The Rhode Island Health Department noted violations at the following Newport establishments in the past couple months:

Newport Hospital, 11 Friendship St. The Health Department noted the following violations during an inspection on Oct. 2:
  • The walls around both prep areas are constructed of painted concrete. This material is not durable. Materials for wall surfaces shall be smooth, durable, easily cleanable and nonabsorbent for areas subject to moisture such as food preparation areas, walk-in refrigerators, warewashing areas and toilet rooms. Facility is in the process of ordering new walls that are smooth, durable, easily cleanable and nonabsorbent.
Newport Xtra Mart, 27 Memorial Blvd. The Health Department noted the following violations during an inspection on Sept. 10:
  • The hand sink was blocked by office equipment. A handwashing sink shall be accessible at all times for employee use.

Why? They are nastier than a fudge store that doesn't wash dishes properly, doesn't have sanitizing strips and has improper walls?
