Fast Ferry Cancels America's Cup Cruises

RI Fast Ferry is refunding bookings for four cruises to watch the America's Cup off Newport.

For those planning to watch the America's Cup World Series from the Rhode Island Fast Ferry's Ava Pearl, you're probably going to need to make alternate plans. According to the Providence Journal, the RI Fast Ferry has nixed four cruises to watch the America's Cup due to a delivery delay.

The object of the delay is the company's newest vessel, the Ava Pearl, which was supposed to offer tours out of Quonset Point from June 28 through July 1. Unfortunately, the fast ferry catamaran – a $6 million, 150-passenger luxury ferry – won't even be delivered until June 29. Originally, it was supposed to be delivered on May 21. Bookings for the four cruises will be refunded.

The state-of-the-art Ava Pearl is set to replace the company's current catamaran, the 400-passenger Millenium. According to the company's website, the new vessel will feature a snack bar, two restrooms, five flat screen televisions and other amenities. The Ava Pearl will be dedicated to sightseeing tours as well as private functions.
