DCYF Closes Day Care Under Investigation for Child Molestation

DCYF closed the facility Friday afternoon

The Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families (DYCF) closed Tender Care Learning Center Friday. On Tuesday, police arrested the 17-year-old son of the center's co-owner Gregory Johnson after he allegedly put his hands up a 5-year-old girl's shorts while at the center. Johnson said the teenager was an "intern" of the day care.

According to DCYF officials, the license suspension only applies to the location at Marcus Wheatland Boulevard. It would not apply to the center's summer camp that is operated at Coggeshall School or Johnson's home day care on Gould Street.

DCYF said they discovered several regulatory violations and ordered an immediate suspension of their license to operate.
