Condé Nast Names Newport 5th Best Small City in USA

Newport is well known mecca for luxury travel, so it's no surprise Condé Nast Traveler's readers put it high on their list.

Condé Nast Traveler has ranked Newport the fifth best small city in America.

In a recent posting, the publication listed what they think are the 10 Best Small Cities in America based on votes by their readers in their 2013 Reader's Choice Awards

The luxury travel magazine had glowing words for the City-by-the-Sea.

In picking Newport, readers emphasized the fact that Newport is "bursting with an unparalleled collection of colonial buildings, jaw-dropping Golden Age mansions (“summer cottages” for the Vanderbilts and their ilk), and long beaches."

The magazine has a traveler's slant, so it's no surprise they mention sunset cruises, the 19th century Madeleine schooner — "perfect for exploring the lively harbor and possible spotting classic America's Cup 12 Meter boats under full sail" and the city's endless array of word class tourism options.

Two of Newport's top hotels got a nod in the ranking — Chanler at Cliff Walk and Castle Hill Inn and Resort.

So which city took home top honors? Santa Fe, N.M., followed by: Carmel-by-the-Sea and Napa in California and Telluride, Colo.
